See where St. John Bosco lived as a child.  Walk through the Oratory of Valdocco where he gathered the young people.  Visit the birthplace of the Salesian Sisters.  Spend time in Florence, the city of art.  Pray in the church of St. Francis of Assisi.  Stroll through St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums.

Day 1:  DEPART USA  Monday, Oct. 29

The group will depart from USA for flight to Milan. Dinner and breakfast will be served aboard flight.


Day 2:  MILAN / TURIN  Tuesday, Oct. 30

Arrive in Milan where the group will be met by the tour escort and transferred by motorcoach to Turin.  Relax upon arrival at the hotel.  In the afternoon, enjoy an orientation tour by motor coach through the city of Turin with a visit to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist where the Shroud of Turin is housed in the Royal Chapel.  Dinner and overnight in Turin. Day 3:  TURIN   Wednesday, Oct. 31

(Excursion to Castelnuovo Don Bosco) 

After breakfast, visit Castelnuovo Don Bosco (formerly called Castelnuovo D’Asti), home town of beloved St. John Bosco. Visit the Basilica of Don Bosco that was built near the quarters where he lived in Becchi. Dinner and overnight in Turin. (B,D)


Day 4:  TURIN     Thursday, Nov. 1 – All Saints Day

Depart after breakfast for a visit to the places associated with Don Bosco in Valdocco, including the church that houses the remains of St. John Bosco, the Basilica of Our Lady of Help of Christians, the Pinardi Chapel (the first oratory St. Bosco built), the Church of St. Francis of Sales, Don Bosco’s living quarters.  After lunch, see the 17th century Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace) and the 16th century Baroque Church of San Lorenzo. Visit also to Piazza San Carlo, one of the grandest squares in Italy.  Dinner and overnight in Turin.  (B,D)


Day 5:  TURIN / MORNESE/ FLORENCE   Friday, Nov. 2

Today we rise for an early breakfast and head to Mornese, the town where St. Mary Mazzarello was born. Visits to the Parish Church where she was baptized and made her first Confession and first Communion; the Native House, where she was born; the Temple; the Valponasca (where she lived her adolescent and youthful years); and the Collegio (the first Motherhouse of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians). We’ll board the bus mid-afternoon for the trip to Florence, stopping for dinner along the way.  Overnight in Florence. (B,D)


Day 6: FLORENCE  Saturday, Nov. 3

Today we tour Florence, the city of art.  After breakfast, our tour highlights: The Duomo & the Baptistry designed by Giotto as well as Santa Croce, the famous Church where Dante, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and many others are buried. Also visit the famous statue of David by Michelangelo.  The afternoon is free for personal touring, shopping or a visit to a fine café.  Dinner and overnight in Florence. (B,D)


Day 7:  FLORENCE / ASSISI / ROME   Sunday, Nov. 4

After lunch we depart Florence to the beautiful town of Assisi, the town of St. Francis and St. Clare.  A tour will include visits to the Basilica of St. Francis (view the exquisite artwork by Giotto), the Convent of St. Clare, and the Basilica of St. Mary

of the Angels.  After that we will depart for Rome, "The Eternal City."  Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B,D)

Day 8:  ROME    Monday, Nov. 5

After breakfast we’ll head to the Basilica Sacra Cuore (Sacred Heart Basilica) which Don Bosco built at the request of the Holy Father.  It was here that Don Bosco broke down in tears while saying Mass when he realized his dream at the age of seven had been fulfilled.  We’ll visit the world headquarters of the Salesians.  During the afternoon enjoy a panoramic sightseeing tour from your motor coach of some of the other important sights of Rome including the Palazzo Venezia, the Circus Maximus, the Forum, the Arch of Constantine and of course the Colosseum.  Dinner and overnight in Rome. Day 9: ROME   Tuesday, Nov. 6

Today visit the Catacombs {St. Callistus is run by the Salesians}. Visit also three of the four major basilicas in Rome; St. Mary Major, St. John Lateran and St. Paul Outside the Walls. Afternoon is free to explore the Eternal City on your own. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B,D)


Day 10: ROME  Wednesday, Nov. 7

The group will attend one of the highlights of the trip, the Papal Audience (if available). After the Audience, enjoy a guided tour of St. Peter’s Basilica, and the world famous Vatican Museums, featuring a visit to the Sistine Chapel. Farewell Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B, D)


Day 11: ROME / USA    Thursday, Nov. 8

After breakfast we depart for Rome Airport. Arrive home the same day. Delegates attending the World Congress of Salesian Cooperators will be picked up at the hotel by the Salesians who will bring them to the Salesian headquarters. (B)
